GP surgery:
You can contact your GP if you are in distress, there will be an out of hours or emergency number on their answer machine.

If it is appropriate a social worker on duty will arrange for a mental health assessment.

Samaritans: 08457 90 90 90
The Samaritans provide confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide.

Accident and Emergency hospital department:
If you feel suicidal and would like to see a professional urgently, you can visit your local hospital accident and emergency department. There will be a duty psychiatrist available to assess your needs and assist in finding the necessary support.

Non-emergency NHS helpline: 111
You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it’s not a life-threatening situation. 

Emergency services: 999
If you or somebody else is at risk due to a mental health crisis, you should ring for the police or an ambulance.

National Mind: 0300 123 3393
The MindinfoLine offers callers confidential help on a range of mental health issues. Calls from anywhere in the UK are charged at local call. Their website also contains useful factsheets on mental health issues and booklets on specific topics can be purchased from their online shop.
